Beautiful
Patrick,
A truly beautiful object. When I acquire a piece at this price level I tell my friends that "the deal was so good I should have been wearing a mask and carrying a gun*".
Your salad will taste better with these.
*this is a joke and in no way is it meant to influnece, inspire, or suggest any pattern of behavior to the arch criminal types (Lunch something or other) and/or anyone from Australia.
I have those too
I have those too. When I bought them I had no clue they went together. I was drawn to the shape and just thought they were nice salad servers. But when I got home I realized they were cut in half from the same piece. I'm missing the black cylinder though. Good find!

Thank you all for your nice comments about my "piece of wood".
Pegboard - It's a relief to know that another design addict would buy some mysterious items. I'm not completely mad after all or at least I'm not alone. 😉
Heath - Thank you for the very instructive link. Understanding the production process is very important for me. Design is not only about aesthetic.
Caco - In which part of the planet did you find yours?
WoofWoof
Here is a photo of the rosewood "needles".
I thought they looked like giant knitting needles, but assumed they were much to large. Then, what the hell do I know about knitting?
They came from a house furnished with a lot of Danish design including Wegner and Vodder.
Patrick, these are not nearly as amazing as your servers, but just an example of how when you are drawn to objects you need not know what they are or what they are for to find them compelling.

Aye, Sailor Geo up 'pon the ships mast appears to have spotted land. They look nice Peg. Far too large for the average knitter.

I'm a knitter. You can rule out knitting needles for those things, not because of their size but because they're conical. Knitting needles have to be cylindrical (past the pints, that is) in order for stitches to stay put. They would also have either knobs or points at the other end, not hanging loops.
Here's another one...
I found this thing. I know it is a bell because it has a little metal clapper on the inside of the larger cone that creates sound but the guy I bought it from had it along a bunch of jiggers or shot measures. Not sure if the smaller cone is there to help create sound or if it's actually meant to measure liquid. It is made in Sweden. I cant quite read the name.
In any case I picked it up because I was drawn to the shape. It does create a nice sound too.
