I feel feel guilty posting this one: This autumn I found a 1962 painting by Chu teh-Chun. I paid $6.96(plus tax)for it at a local thrift store. Sotheby's will be selling it for me this spring in Hong Kong. The proceeds should be enough for me to build my summer home. Other great finds include:A Robsjohn Gibbings dresser for Widdecomb-$8.96, a Heywood wakefield Trophy Suite dresser-same price( same thrift store) an early eames shell chair - free from a motorcycle dealer service department waiting room ( I asked...they said "take it").Recently, a pair of earnest race side chairs for free - from a closing auto parts store (of all places). This week I picked up an artist proof lithograph, with the proper watermark, from Nino Franchina for 39 cents at the aforementioned thrift store. I should mention that it was "50% off" day though, so it was only 20 cents. I have two thrift stores within a few blocks of my office. I spend about 10 minutes each lunch hour in each one. 'Nary a week goes by that I get "skunked". I dare not tell anyone about them, and refer to them as my in guarded terms as "my junk shops". Last week a saw a guy walking out with a Lowy and Koch desk lamp and it was killing me that I JUST missed it. I placated myself by reflecting on what incredibly good luck I have had with my finds this year. The Chu Teh-Chun painting was such an extraordinary find, I suppose I have no right to covet the other guys lamp. Although this IS called the design "addict" forum...
isn't covetous behaviour part of the package?
