Well after finding this forum I am now getting even more addicted to retro which isn't a good thing since I am in a one bedroom apartment and already addicted to vintage audio. I just want to share my little collection that I have, if anyone knows about any of the pieces feel free to commit.
My living room when it was a bit clean, my decor changes every weekend 🙂
The thing under the TV...
...looks like it might be nice. The rest looks like kind of generic 50s-60s stuff sold in U.S. furniture stores. I have Sears and Montgomery Ward catalogs from that era and they have stuff like that, too.
It's very hot now in certain circles. Apartmenttherapy.com shows a lot of that sort of furniture and decor. It doesn't have staying power, though. But if you can resell some of it and trade up to fewer, nicer pieces, you'll have a good thing going.
Oh, I like the wood armchair with the square cushions, too.
Thanks, I know most is...
Thanks, I know most is generic but its cool, I hope to someday come across some nice designer pieces but not having room to display it is the problem. I went to a home in the el cerrito hills here in California and the home wasn't touched since 1968 this is where my drapes came from, it was professionally designed and had that Chinese motif going, they had a lot of blonde furniture and corner section couch that I was dying to buy but whats the point in buying something if you can't display it.
That arm chair is my fav I wish the lady had a pair and its surprising comfortable. The home it came from had a great collection of 50's furniture, that chair was hard to fit into the back seat though
"Not having room to display it is the problem"
Cooljjay: This seems simplistic, but... If you don't have enough room for the pieces you desire, make room by getting rid of the pieces you don't desire.
If you still don't have enough room for everything you desire, great! That means you won't be buying as many things, so you can afford to spend more than you thought on each one.
If you STILL don't have enough room, try to desire floor-to-ceiling storage of some kind. You can fit an enormous amount of stuff on an eight-foot-high set of shelves, even if it's only a few feet wide. It doesn't have to be anything fancy; even the cheapest nailed-together bookshelf filled with boxes looks nicer than a room cluttered with random stuff on every flat surface. If there's an Ikea store near you, you may find that they have a storage solution that fits your budget, space, and aesthetic.
Separating your storage area from your living area makes a BIG difference. My space is small too, but my living/dining room COMFORTABLY holds a dining table with four chairs, a sofa, a coffee table, two lounge chairs with ottomans, a side chair, an armchair, 6 side tables, a magazine stand, a stuffed panda, a planter, two floor lamps, a bar table, two barstools, and a stereo with floorstanding speakers.
Someone else mentioned apartmenttherapy.com; there are lots of good ideas for small spaces there.
Good luck...
