I was discussing my Grasshopper Saarinen chair and I was asked to display it. Here it is:
I was also asked to display my CSS shelving system:
Also; here's some stuff I've been lucky enough to collect:
If the pix are too big, sorry...I know how to take 'em but I don't know how to size 'em.
I have had a lot of the...
I have had a lot of the DCM chairs that you have, they are getting more scarce for some reason.
I don't think that Herman million made 1 trillion of them like they did with the other chairs, so their are not that many of them floating around,(very popular at the public libraries across America for some reason)
what i did do and love, I recovered mine with Miller stripe and they look wonderful. I have also done them in both Girard checker and Eames crosspatch in sets of 4
Why all the lamps? here's why
They're resting. My living room is not complete because I need someone to help me install the Nelson CSS - with the shorter poles - along one wall and this shelf will have be anchored in the wall studs with the top and bottom stablizers. (the larger shelf system I have in my den is floor to (almost) ceiling and the weight of the CDs and stereo system allows me to fudge on the installation and rest it up against the wall without stablizers!)
I'm also don't have the 'sofa of my dreams'. I want either a two seat or three seat Eames Sofa (not the compact) and it's damn expensive. Someone on eBay sold a beautiful three seater for 3400.00 and it was in taupe leather. I'm definitely not getting it in black.
But, cricky, new it's over 7000.00.
Once I get a sofa and the shelf system installed, I'll better be able to organize the lamps.
What wasn't included in the picture is an original 32" cigar Bubble Lamp hanging on a swag. I use it on a timer so it goes on at 6:30 and goes off at 2:00AM!
My opinion...
You've got...
My opinion...
You've got some very nice stuff. The Grasshopper chair is great and also the Aalto chair (can't remember the name of the model right now) looks great.
Still, I think you have too much stuff! Two side tables for the Aalto chair? I like them both (especially the Schultz table), but in my opinion less is definitely more in this case... The corner would look so much better with just the Aalto chair, the Nelson sidetable and the floor lamp.
That said, my home is also a 'project' still. I also have too many lamps and way too many Eames shells. I need some other materials, like wood or stone. I think a shelving system is a great way to display some of the lamps...
I can relate to you all...
I can relate to you all !! I have been collecting before some of you were born so i know what it is to display your favorite things ,
I was lucky enough to be able to purchase a 5000 sq ft home last year and I have it completely filled with my treasures,
I love lamps and lamps and lamps, and clocks
i have over 40 lucite and and chrome balls and other lamps from every designer from Karl Springer, Robert Sonomnon, Achille and Pier CaSTIGLIONI Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, Geo Ponti, Louis Paulson, POUL Henningsen George Nelson and many more and i want to display them all cause i love them.
I have others. like Gerald Thurston, Paul Frankel,Vico Magistretti Isamu Noguchi Paper lamp.in my warehouse cause there is not any room left in the Inn, something about lamps that are very intriguing to me , when anyone says less is more , not here baby, I also have other great stuff from all the great furniture designers but in the interest of good taste and design integrity, I have to restrain my self to display the furniture that looks good , also I do have a wife to contend with, she shares my passion for the furniture but even she says enough is enough to the warehouse with
that one, or if you take one out you have to put the other one up.( 7 years old all over again darn it)
at the end of the day go for what makes you happy .....if you can get away with it,
