Today marks my 1 year anniversary of collecting furniture, Eames pieces in particular. Last year today, I drove from SF to almost San Diego and back within 24 hours to pick up my first collection and this collection/addiction is going stronger than ever (don't know if it's good or bad). To say it's exciting and fun is an understatement because all the knowledge and conversations with other fellow addicts and collectors have been eye opening. This forum has been my daily fix and given me a venue to "brag" about my experience as well. And I just wanted to thank you all for being part of my journey!!!
enrichment
LRF,
It will enrich your life tremendously is most likely and understatement.
In my travels I found a fight worn signed "Muhammad Ali aka Cassius Clay" boxing glove that my wife and I gave my father (81) this last Father's day.
The look on my fathers face and the pride in receiving this "collectible" enriched my life beyond words.
On the design side, my sister was the recipient of a Herman Miller Eames lounge and ottoman. I prefer the look and scale of the Fritz Hansen Poul Kjærholm PK series. The Eames piece is beautiful, but it shines best in my sisters home.
Congrats kin...
And thank you for all of your help and excellent advice regarding my various 670 Lounge issues. You may be only one year into it, but your knowledge and experience with various resources and approaches for repairs is quite extensive, and has been very helpful to me.
The first few years ( of ANYTHING ) is an exciting time indeed, as the learning curve is so high. I like the way you don't try to hide or temper your enthusiasm about the subject.
HAHA maybe in 10 years you will be a jaded veteran, but somehow I doubt it!
Thanks to all of your warm wi...
Thanks to all of your warm wishes. Sometimes it feels like a lonesome journey because none of my friends are into this hobby. Though my wife has been incredibly supportive, I know deep down she's supportive of me, but not the addiction. That's why all the conversations on this forum have been so fun and meaningful.
EamesHead is right. I don't hide my enthusiasm and because of that, I've probably embarrassed myself on a few occasions. But that's also what I've learned to love about this hobby too, to be honest with our ignorance and mistakes. So glad to hear that some of my experience and mistakes have benefited others here. The road of learning goes on and on........
natural curiosity
Lunchbox,
No one, least of all me, doubts that you "live large".
As others have suggested on this forum, a quick Google search, will reveal that Cartier is a large, global "high end" jewelry store. Their stores are the antithesis of "I got mine at Jared".
I assume by your statement, "don't even know who or what Cartier is nor do I want to", that you are fine being ignorant (lacking knowledge or awareness) of the best of everything, but I thought kin1117 may not share that narrow and limited outlook.
Perhaps Mark has had dealings with this establishment and may provide further enlightenment. He seems to be able to communicate with the obtuse in a much kinder and gentler fashion.
Booty is in the eye of the beholder, niceguy. . .
But no, I was not advocating Jared. It was merely a quip aimed at taking the piss out of kin a bit and making light of the horrendous commercials Jared runs ad nauseum on the tele. I repeat. I have never been to Jared nor do I advocate shopping there.
I hope this post has calmed your nerves, niceguy.
just kidding
Lucnchbox,
I was just "pulling your leg".
I thought about saying "living large does not mean eating at McDonald's daily", but I believed you would not find the humor in this statement.
I felt positive that you would not be a person you enjoyed Jared's terrible repetitive commercial.
Not that it matters, but you are okay by me.
Best regards
