Just thought I'd ask our forumers what music they feels sets the right ambience in a home that features beautiful design and beautiful art. For me, it has to be any of the Hotel Costes albums, one through to ten. I also like Royskopp and massive attack. Plus Thievry Corporation, with that great album Abductions and reconstructions- the cover features a very groovy 70s looking stereo (not sure who it's by).
Other suggestions?

1930's jazz with 1950's furniture
No question about it; the only right music to play in a mid-century environment is 1920's and 1930's original jazz and dance music 78's.
Why, you might ask?
Well, that's the music I collect...so it make sense to me.
Go figure!

It doesn't matter. It's the environment that makes the music good....
Right now I'm listening to old Joy Division and New Order, but I've loved all genre's from classic Coltrane, 1990's Tribe Called Quest, to Feist.
Modernism can go with genre of music. Actually, if anything, a modernist environment can make any music genre sound even better.
Check out this music video and count the modernist classics:
