There are three products that have saved my butt a few time:
Goo Gone
Tide stick
Mr Clean magic eraser
I also used a Bic pen eraser(bue) to remove a large amount of blemishes from 5 Beige Eames shell chairs. Don't even get me started on Nevr-dull and Bar keepers Friend

Something even better than Goo Gone
I swear by regular Zippo Lighter Fluid for removing any sticky glue or nasty paper labels.
It penetrates the sticker and loosens the glue without damaging the surface.
I use it on records, removing paper labels from a paper item, and even wood, although you'll have to recondition the wood after using the lighter fluid.

Fluid
I'll try the lighter fluid, I'd like to see the result. We have a heat gun that also works wonders on stickers, it gets really hot and you have to be extra careful.

James...
I collect records and the lighter fluid actually removes stickers from the paper labels and the album covers too without harming the paper label or album cover!
It doesn't, however, work on dried-up masking tape...apparently the glue is made of something that lighter fluid doesn't work on.
Everything else is nifty.
