I have seen the 1st clock,
Lloyd, and it's been listed as a Nelson clock. I believe it is.
The second isn't, of course.

i bought this on ebay ton...
i bought this on ebay tonight i like the merdians
I will either put the hands from the turban, spindle
or the big sunflower clock on it since i do not have the original ones,
I wish i could get a set of the originals , i have all three sets that i have bought from Vitra, but have no idea what would look the coolest, I have seen lots of the meridan clocks at the modern show in NYC last year and i was surprise how many hands they used on them,
Of course on all the bitsoui blues and other ones they used the orginal ones , but so many of the other ones they used either the big almond hands found on the turbine or the triangle hands found on the eye spindle and the hands found on the big sunflower what would you use,

I really never imagined this...
I really never imagined this thread would become so popular when I originally started it!
These clocks are very cool too, designed by Corchia and deHarak for Kirsch/Hamilton - It's called the Aurora. Most of you have probably seen it anyway, I believe it's in the Moma.

Two Clocks...
The table clock is definitely from Nelson's office, though I think it's often attributed to Pollack. Don't hold me to that though. This particular clock has been listed several times on 1stdibs, and it is nice. My question is whether it's worth that much without the back. You'd almost have to press it against the wall in your house if you wanted to show it. There is actually a wall version of that one too. I have it hanging in my foyer.
As for the Roman numeral clock, I believe it too is Nelson. I haven't checked my catalogs recently, but I actually have one sitting in my desk at work. It has the period Howard Miller label and is just a differen iteration of the ball clock. I guess it's trying to be a mix of the old and the new with the features of a ball clock but using old school numbers. I'm not sure it works for me.
Barry, did you get the pictures I sent you? I hope they went through.

There's a guy on eBay
selling two of the most unattractive clocks attributed to Nelson Associates.
He shows a small photocopy of a pamphlet showing these two clocks, and they're only $200.00 each buy it now, but jeez, they're plain.
This guy's also selling a detroyed Nelson basic chest with the finish nearly all off and all of the hardware missing.
Salvation Army comes to eBay.

I could not agree with you more those clocks are as plain as JANE and more than likely they were a goodwill find for 15 bucks each and the dude thought he could ride the howard miller/nelson wave and sell them for 200 each,
the pamphlet is worth more than the clocks
I am bidding on the black face with triangle hand and the wicker clock.
I have no idea if they are worth more than that i have a bid of 135 each? and if i get them great, and if i dont that is ok too . but they do look better then those others ,
I think that round wood with roman numerals will bring some bucks and I don't want to go chase that one for 300.00 but don't you just love ebayers that think they can kill the fat hog, with these clocks, and g-d for bid you should ask them for a buy it now price!! they act like you should burn in hell, but I bought one of the meridan the other day for 60 bucks, i offered the guy 125.00 on a buy it now the same price i paid for the other meridan that i bought from him, and he said i never end my auctions early cause i don't want to make my customers mad, but his customers forgot to bid and i got it for 50 bucks opening bid, .

chrono clock desk
I am still keeping a eye on the chronoclock desk
clocks their were 5 on ebay last week 4 went for 345. 250.00, 219.00,152.00 3 others are still running, Still wondering what closet all these clocks are falling out of, the retail from vitra sells for around 400. for a new one , and it seems that the original ball clocks are again bringing the big bucks,
I have noticed that the vitra reissues are not bringing no where close to there retail reissue price, on ebay,
I saw a black astrick go for 86 bucks and that is cheap,

And now a personal note ...
And now a personal note on Howard Miller
Most every one who reads this thread is a big fan
of Howard Miller/ George Nelson clocks
but have you ever stopped to look at the clocks this once great company puts out now? what i would call
butt ugly, I can not believe after looking at the ebay website how ugly they are, now i know as well as you, not everyone in the world loves MODERN but every one needs a clock and some of the clocks that this once great company makes are just plain ugly!!!,
Go to the Target website at least the sick Michael Graves can come out with some really great looking clocks, similiar in Taste to George Nelson, It is no wonder that every MCM fan is trying to get a great vintage Miller clock on ebay , cause i would not give 10 bucks for some of the crap that they have coming out now,
I now think it was a smart move of the Nelson Estate to get as far as away from Howard Miller as they can. With Georges timeless designs it takes someone like Vitra to appreciate them and know what their customers want.

Yup...new Howard Miller are pretty tired
They're really into the classic mode, and the few post post post modern clocks they're selling look like something from a K-Mart.
Howard Miller must've had the chance of putting some of the old Nelson clock into production before vitra got involved...I'm sure Jacqueline Nelson contacted Herman Miller and made enquiries. Herman Miller is not involved with the current Howard Miller, but I'm pretty sure Howard Miler must've have been contacted.
They're apparently stupid about not getting involved, aren't they?
Some of their huge Grandfather clocks ARE quality, but not my cup of tea...or even my mug of ale...not to mention my specimen or pee.

Spindle clock...
One of the sellers on ebay has an original spindle clock for sale. I would be interested except he only takes check or money order. No way am I spending that kind of money and not going through paypal or pay with a credit card...because if you are screwed by a crooked seller then you have no recourse if you pay with check or money order.

Jacqueline Nelson
Almost every place that sells the Vitra Nelson clocks says "with the kind permission of Jacqueline Nelson", was it "kind permission" or "kind money" that gave Vitra the OK of make the clocks. I'd like to imagine that she was happy to have his company's clocks remade and didn't take money for it, but I'm sure it was the kindness that only cold hard cash brings out. Anyone know?
