MidMod...I think it IS a Nelson Howard Miller clock
From what I have pieced together, Howard Miller produced as many table model clocks as wall clocks, and many of these table models were in their catalog for only a year or so, so it's very difficult to pin them all down.
This one has all the characteristics of a late 1940's or very early 1950's Nelson table model.
I'm quite I've seen this clock listed as a Nelson clock...somewhere.
MidMod50..not a Nelson clock
That clock is most likely an Umanoff design. I have also seen the same clock as a wall clock with a pendulum. I will send you some old catalog pics. And you were right about the SpikeDiamond clock that just sold on Ebay for $2000, that was a bargin. The last one that went thru Wright Auctions in 2006 went for over $5000. That is one of my favorite Nelson clocks and it doesn't come around too often.
My guess is
Umanoff. Once I get the Nelson Vitra catalog, I might be better able to spot those later ones.
But if i WERE doing a book on Nelson clocks, I would want to include the Meridian and Umanoff clocks, because they're a continuation of Howard Miller's quality modern clock collections...especially in light of the boring antique clock company they have become!
There's a mantle clock
that the eBay seller swears is a George Nelson design. I emailed him asking him is there's any number on back of the clock, and he said the only writing on the back is '1948' in magic marker.

That "mantle" clock is a wall clock...
It is at best a Nelson wall clock that some enterprising entrepeneur stuck to a piece of wood. As you know, those Howard Miller wall clocks come up for auction regularly. My guess is someone bought one, stuck it to a piece of wood, and is now calling it a rare "mantle" clock.
Super rare #2257
Tried to bid on this but it's now over $400.00 and 1) it's got three disconnected wood slat and 2) three missing wood slats (which would need to be made) and 3) it's a wind-up clock and the seller does not have the key, so it's possible that the wind-up motor is broken...if it is, it can NOT be replaced....only a betty motor can be installed.
So, a (probable) non-working clock with 3 slats missing...way over what it's worth unless it was in good working order.
Damn beautiful and rare clock...oh well.
I only wish the Chinese knockoff people would knock this sucker off. I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
Gosh, barrympls, you are...
Gosh, barrympls, you are such the George Nelson humanitarian. How much did it go for? You could have probably had a couple slats made for near twenty bucks or less.
Given the state of the Union, I tend to worry about such posts.
Anyway, good luck, & as they say 'round here, God bless.
