Some time back we were invited to curate an exhibit of modern furniture and design at the South Shore Art Center in Munster, IN and it's finely here.
South Shore Arts is a regional art center that serves Chicago and Northwest Indiana. They have four galleries in the area which each present several shows a year. They are a non-profit organization with an educational mission, in addition to their exhibitions they offer art classes and community outreach. The winter show which runs from November to February is considered their "blockbuster" show and takes place in the Munster gallery which is their largest at 5,000 sq. ft.
We are very flattered to have been asked to put this show together and have been working very hard for the past several months in preparation. Since all of the pieces have been culled from our personal collection and inventory, the exhibit will feature mostly post-war American and Scandinavian design. The show opens Nov. 17th and runs through Feb. 2. There will be a reception on Jan. 28th 2014 from 6-8 and I've been asked to give a presentation during the exhibit. We'd like to invite any Design Addicts to come see the show. If you want to drop us a line, we'd be happy to try and meet you during your visit to the Art Center.
This is their quarterly magazine that recently came out announcing the show. We are not responsible for the "Mad Men" reference in the title.

I wish I lived there, I'd set up house in the Kapoor and never leave.
Will there be a brochure? In exhibitions like this wondering around with a sheet with curious anecdotes and more information than is on a standard card is nice, also there don't seem to be any cats, why is this?
Thanks everyone
It's a lot of work, but I think it will be very rewarding. I find the curating aspect very satisfying as it's like making one large art installation with many of my favorite designs. It's also an exciting opportunity to share our passion for this material with a public who may not be very familiar with it. We have received a lot of positive feedback in just the past several days of setting up.
There is still much to do, but we have time before it is open to the public on the 17th.
Speaking of public, Mark. Initially I was not overly concerned with people touching things, as much of this is stuff we live with. But thanks to friends who keep reminding me that people will not be able to resist the urge to sit on or handle everything, and your vivid suggestion of thoughtless fat-ass galoots, I now have an appropriate level of anxiety about it. The director has expressed a willingness to put "do not touch" and "do not sit" signs on everything. I told them I did not want all the visual distractions, but was willing to have them arm a menacing guard with a tazer should anyone fail to resist the impulse.
Really, I'm just hoping the gentle reminder of a few signs at the entry and the refined presentation will be enough to garner the respect that I would like to have shown the objects.
Heath, I am afraid that the show, like our family currently, is cat-less. That is, unless Mark makes a visit and brings his feline (who is welcome to recline on any of the lounge chairs).
Oh, and Mark. You say that you've not had a drink in Munster, but if you choose to do so, may I recommend Three Floyd's brewery? I don't know if you are a beer connoisseur, but they have been ranked as one of the best beers in the world for a number of years. I happen to have a single bottle of Dark Lord that I've been saving for a special occasion.

A visit to view your installation and a beer at Floyd's sounds good.
Mother has rented a large home in Historic Galena, Illinois for the holiday month of December (and part of January)... so I will clad my frigid body in some woolen sartorial madness and figure out how to navigate to Munster. I'll bring some extra xanax, and a flyswatter.
Best,
Aunt Mark
And I think
that I would like to drive by this Munster home if it's still available. I'm shocked at the price.
Why not?
