I'm having a hell of time finding a stylish, streamlined and subtle platform bed that doesn't look like a set prop in a film about pimps.
I've been researching this model by Minotti:
But my god, it's going for $5,700 and that doesn't even include the shipping!
There is also the problem of finding a queen-sized mattress for it (the euro mattress sizing is different from those in US); so I'm just about to give up.
Has anyone come across anything cool that they'd recommend? I'd appreciate it with maybe a link or two.
Cheers,
ZP
Room and Board beds...
Room and Board has a good selection of beds and one similiar to the one you're looking at. Design within reach is a good place to check too.

Well...
Its not very subtle..but it is streamlined..and no pimps, and it is a sort of platform in a way.

CPR has some nice platform beds
check out especially the zen from charles p. rogers, it is solid hardwood in really big planks and is priced at $1099. It's a real piece of furniture. 🙂

i designed this one a few years ago
it is very nice (IMHO)
it definitely has presence, so i don't know if it hits the subtle button.
sorry bout the pic, i didn't realize i had such a bad image up, i'll take care of that on monday.
this was also engineered to ship flat, and bolt together.

Don't know if this works for you
But what I did when facing the same problem, is made a rolling bed platform using Metro shelving (I went through a Metro shelving period...made everything with it).
Just buy two shelves that are 72" long, and whatever width (times two) that best matches your mattress width (30-inch ones worked for me).
All that is required to secure them together are a few cheap little S-hooks they sell for that very purpose.
Then, you buy six of their biggest rubber locking castors for legs.
It's very modern looking, and Metro shelving is always in style...only it looks much more interesting as a bed (kinda looks like a giant Gae Aulenti coffee table).
Or not.
Simple Platform Bed
I just bought a Tate Bed from Crate and Barrel. The queen size runs about $1300. I bought this one because I was looking for one that was padded because of my kids always running and jumping on the bed in the morning. 🙂
