One of the most interesting and informative books on mid-century I have is:
"Modern Retro - Living with Mid-Century Modern Style"
by
Neil Bingham and Andrew Weaving
published in 2000 by Ryland, Peters & Small - London & New York.
What a cool, useful book of rooms nicely decorated with mid-century classics. A lot of the photos have dogs and cats lounging, which is kind of cool, and on page 6, there's an Eames Dining table with dowel legs! Is that a custom made piece by Eames or was a created by a good furniture maker?
Either way, it's so beautiful that I wish Herman Miller would create the exact table for sale.

Thanks, Robert
for posting that photograph. (Isn't that book marvelous?)
So....was that cool dining table actually produced by Herman Miller, or was it custom produced by a midcentury collector and a custom furniture maker?
Honestly, if I was looking for a round dining room table, and this dowel-leg table was available, I'd buy it in a shot! I think I like it better than the Noguchi Cyclone or Saarinen tables.
I love the photo (page 102/3)
of the pair of Josef Hoffman Kubus sofas flanking the Robsjohn-Gibbons monster "Mesa" coffee table and the Arne Jacobsen Swan wooden legged chair.
This is such a perfect photo showing all levels of quality modern furniture...from the 1920's, 1940's and 1950's.
This is exactly the kind of environment that appeals to me; mixing and matching pieces of quality furniture from different eras, all of which are forward-thinking modern without being too period-trendy.
