I need some help with these chairs. They have been quite the headache, I fought tooth and nail to get them, and then many many paper towels, scrubbies, cleaner to get all the nicotine residue off. Then I oiled the mechanisms, and cleaned n waxed the frames.
I am now stuck at who is the designer??
The mechanisms are stamped General Steel High Point, N.C. and seeing that Thayer Coggin was based in North Caroline I am associating them with him BUT these are built different then the ones I can find on the web. So is it possible that they were built before he joined Thayer??
I bought them from the original owners daughter, who stated they were bought new with the Eichler style home that was built in 1959.
So I know need the experts help on finalizing the maker. I am also curious on thoughts about recovering them? There is some tares in the vinyl and the webbing is sagging a bit.

Well.....
I have been talking with Thayer and they have stated that the chairs are not by milo when he was working for them. They stated that he started there in the late 50's. More then likely they are copies from the same period he was designing the recliner for Thayer. I suppose there is still a chance they are early designs of him. I still wish I could say with out a doubt who they are! Since the reclining mechs are signed general steel, there may be a patent I can look up.
I am by no means an expert. But I did own an authentic Milo Baughman recliner which this one looks similar to. I do not think your chair was designed by Milo more likely like Thayer Coggin said was produce to replicate the Baughman Recliner. The seat and armrests just dont look right. The recliner I had was made by James Inc. which was the original company which evolved into Thayer Coggin in the 1950's. And I believe Thayer Coggin had exclusive rights to Milo Baughmans designs so If It can not be authenticated buy Thayer Coggin as one of theirs it is most likely not a Milo Baughman. Still a beautiful and I am sure comfortable chair!
