Bought these for personal use. Bottoms of some of the seats marked "Made in Yogoslavia."
I know they aren't fancy pieces, but we really like that they all match. My plan is to refinish and put new covers on. How do I tell if these are teak or walnut? Can I just sand and then stain/danish oil? I've read a lot on putting on stripper, put I don't think this has a coat of varnish.
Also, I'm super curious about the bottom front of the chairs and sofa. Sofa is "curve at the top," we think to accommodate the spring give. The chairs are "curve at the bottom." Is this an error? You can't flip them over, as there is a peg on the top to hold the seat frame.
Thinking of recovering in new grass green. What do you think? Are the old covers worth saving or selling? We have cushions and covers for all the pieces

All the Yugo furniture I've seen
has had a tinted lacquer finish. The tint is to give it the look of a more expensive wood species, like teak or walnut. I think they're usually beech or a mix of woods. You can strip it with acetone or lacquer thinner. It dissolves within 30 seconds but you have to work fast because the solvent evaporates really, really quickly.
I don't know about the front rail---could be upside down on the sofa. I have seen a few pieces of furniture that were assembled incorrectly originally. Odd but it does happen.
I would not save the cushions. The foam is probably kind of shot, and the fabric is kind of dull, maybe due to fading? I doubt they have much value. Do note proportions, including thickness. Upholsterers are kind of notorious for making cushions that are off a bit (or a lot). Usually on the chunky side.
I don't think I'd do all three pieces in bright green. Just the sofa or just the chairs, then choose a neutral or coordinating pattern or tweed or something with a little green in it if you really like green. Modern-Fabrics.com has a lot of nice stuff at a discount (lots of Knoll, Maharam/Kvadrat, Arccom, Designtex, etc.)
