Hi
I'm very new to mid century furniture and over the past 2 years have slowly been purchasing mid century pieces to completely redesign the interior of my home. My latest purchase I found at a consignment shop; Z design Selig Made In Denmark sofa and chair in pristine condition.
I'd like to study more about this era in furniture design and need a starting point. Can you recommend any books which will help.
Cheers!
Bob

Starters
Vintage Furniture - Fay Sweet
Miller's Mid-Century Modern - Judith Miller
Mid-Century Modern - Bradley Quinn
Living Retro - Andrew Weaving
Modern Retro - Neil Bingham and Andrew Weaving
The first two are good for learning about the furniture and designers, while the other three are good references for mid-century interiors and styling. i would say that these are all good, well-rounded starter books. I refer to them a lot. Modern Furniture: 150 Years of Design is also an amazing book, which can currently be picked up on Amazon for $20 for the hardcover. It's 720 pages and very good for reference. I could keep going, but this will get you more than started.

For those interested I can recommend a pile of books on Australian mid-century furniture and architecture. Just click on the link below.

When it comes to scandinavian design...
I highly recommend this one:
A german book from the Sixties with loads and loads of pictures that is still available second hand for not too much money.

Classic Modern
'Classic Modern' Midcentury Modern At Home by Deborah k. Dietsch is my fave in the coffee table book realm. I refer to it over and over. Look for it used.....still pricey though. Also ' Decorative Art' series done by decades 50's, 60's & 70's and published by Taschen. I picked them up for cheap at Powell's Books in Portland, Or

go find a copy of the bible,...
go find a copy of the bible, "mid-century modern by cara greenberg published in the early to mid 1980's and re-issued in 1994 as a paperback. at the time, it was the only reference available when the style became retro and widely available for people like me who cannot afford to buy decent furniture and had no choice but to pick up the cast offs of others on the street curb the night before trash pick up. it is also worth looking for a copy of the sequel "op to pop" by the same author.
the newer books on the subject are great picture books, but unfortunately riddled with errors and mis-identification.

I know this is an old thread, and it's likely no one will see this... but I'd love to know which book actionandaction was linking to. Sadly the site says "result not found".
Please help! 🙂
