I picked these dining chairs up at an auction along with a McCobb coffee table. They are kind of McCobby, any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I've seen these before.
I'm pretty sure they were made by Broyhill Furniture.

I would need
to see the profile of the front legs, but a preliminary yes, Mccobb.

Interesting.
I think you may be correct.
Early on i do see a more traditional seat in McCobb.
I call it the 'grandma' seat.
I have a similar set in my parents attic.
My grandmothers.

I uploaded a profile photo of one of the chairs.
Thanks for your input everyone.

Armchair version
This appears to be the armchair version, listed as "McCobb inspired", if you had not seen it already.

I had
a set like the one above. The scooped out arm rests and distinctive profile of the front legs are seen in some of the chairs of the Mccobb /Directional book. I have suspected the ones I had were a slightly less refined, earlier variant. I do not know of any other designer or maker who has used those exact design elements. But hey, I certainly have'nt seen everything.

Less refined
is a good way to phrase it, glassartist. Something about the curve of the backrest is not right for McCobb -- perhaps the balance between upper and lower lines?
I would also look at the leg stretchers more closely. Most (although not all) McCobb chairs of this form have a dowel between the back legs, placed fairly high (higher than the H-shaped stretcher connecting back and front legs); some chairs also have brass caps(?) covering the dowel connections.
If I were to venture a non-McCobb speculation... Kipp Stewart for Drexel. (Incidentally, both Stewart and McCobb designed higher-end pieces for Directional.)

Not Paul McCobb and not Kipp Stewart either
What this armchair most closely resembles is a chair by Kipp Stewart for Directional's American Design Foundation collection (not Drexel as was earlier suggested) circa 1960 but there are differences in the construction that say it is not that either.
So thus far we know it is not by McCobb and not by Kipp Stewart either. Who else can we rule out 🙂
