Hello everyone!
I asked some questions about these chairs some time ago, after which I decided not to purchase them seeing as I don't thought they were authentic. I made that decision thanks to your help, so thank you for that!
I have a new question now. I found a vintage Marcel Breuer B3 chair, from a seller not far from me who says it belonged to his father and who believes it is 100% genuine (and with genuine I mean made by one of the registered manufacturers, most probably Gavina).
I asked for a few pictures which he will send later today. When I have them I will post them for sure!
My main question would be: is anyone on the forum 100% certain that authentic 'Wassily' chairs (Marcel breuer B3's) have been made that do not have a signature pressed in the leather that is horizontally located behind your back?
If the chair has black hex bolts, good quality leather, and correct end caps on the tubes (but no manufacturer stickers or signature), what would you advise me to do? The price is correct so I' more inclined to purchase them when I believe them to be authentic, then to walk away from a possibly authentic chair, if you understand what I mean.
I'm looking forward to your answers!
Thanks a lot,
Tom
I don't...
...but, unless it's got Marcel's signature on it, I haggle as though it's a medium-quality fake.
His dad says it's 100% authentic? WELL, MY DAD SAYS IT'S JUNK!!! I'll give you $100 out of the goodness of my dumb ol' heart.
It's a good idea to save lots of screenshots of authentic chair details on your phone when going into any possible purchase.
You can tell the seller what you're looking for and not seeing, and then show them examples on your phone. They will - almost without fail - have glanced at eBay for 2 minutes and convinced themselves that they're going to pay for their next vacation with this sale.
Bring them back to Earth.
