Just saw this on the BBC website!! There may be some lessons here in the necessity of adding modern fire protection to old buildings. And lessons in how even contemporary equipment "exploding projector", can fail and lead to disasters.
A tragedy
The good news, if it can be called that, is that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is reporting that 90% of the building and 70% of the contents have been saved. Also the building has been subject of a detailed 3D survey, so records are available to put it back the way it was.
for anyone overseas
that is unaware of our loss:

I'm in shock.
My family comes from Glasgow, and, years ago while in Scotland, I was fortunate to visit the art school. It was a truly magnificent building rich with design. I am hoping that some of the building's interior and its contents have indeed been saved but with all that wood and paper.....
