I am starting to think about possibly remodelling my kitchen, having just purchased a few Perriand Les Arcs stools for a future 'breakfast bar'. There is nothing wrong with my kitchen to the masses, it is 'modern' but doesn't look right with the rest of my home. What struck me upon looking at hundreds of images of beautiful MCM homes on FlickR and the like, I never once spotted a kitchen shot!

Any images would be much appreciated, I am guessing the typical kitchen of the 1950s-60s now looks dated, but I hate these new minimal looking kitchens. The flooring/wall colour is easy to choose, but what sort of cabinets would one pick to get the look right?

Nick
remember the 10th anniversary thread when we put up pix of our rooms/current projects and jesgord posted a pic of those awesome MCM cabinets in his kitchen? Maybe he will post some more pix of his kitchen, hint, hint.

Excellent post idea!
I have also been thinking about how to change my builder spec kitchen into something more fitting with the rest of my home. Strangely enough, when looking for MCM-style kitchens I have come up short. Usually they look very IKEA-like modern, or vintage, which is not bad, but perhaps not in fitting with the rest of a MCM home.
I would love to see more pictures. That built-in is beautiful.

You could have some cabinets ...
You could have some cabinets made, hanging from cleats maybe? I think not having a kickboard as with these helps with avoiding cockroaches and mice and the sliding doors are a good space saver.
They'd need to be altered a bit but wouldn't be very expensive. Corian comes in 12mm thickness which would be good for the benchtops.

Whilst
it might not suit your place Nick, I made a kitchen for my previous place from a set of 70s rosewood lounge units.
The smoked glass doors were used for the lower level, and even the in-built lighting was used. as you can see.
A good exercise in recycling- if nothing else !

Thank you Jesgord
for taking the time to post those pictures. I have a serious case of "kitchen envy". Are your countertops soapstone?
