Theres heaps, I like Petula C...
Theres heaps, I like Petula Clark, Sandy Shaw, Woody Guthrie, the singing nun, I forget her name, a film was made about her a while ago.
Is this all getting a bit too nostalgic? It would be good though to have a thread about books and music where the descritpions of the time are incidental...I really enjoyed Couples by John Updike.
wow
that chick has some serious blepharitis!
I don't know of any music videos with MCM props, but I've often thought that classic Danish modern and other furniture from that era would sound like Dave Brubeck and Vince Guaraldi if it could be put into music. I mean, if it was music, that's what it would sound like. Elegant and suave and very, very beautiful.
Imagine
how poor Dionne -- a truly gifted singer -- must have felt: They record the song in the studio, then they do the lip-synched video: She has to endure an unfortunate costume selection that, no matter how trendy, severely inhibits her movement. And what must she have thought, if anything, about all those chairs ? At least we see that a new one spins quite nicely when given a bit of a shove !
Vince Guaraldi...
One of my Fav-fav-fav's!!! Dave Brubeck too...and Cannonball Adderly, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis (early stuff mostly)and on and on. This music definitely says MCM to me. Funny I got into the music and the design stuff at about he same time in my late 20's.
Zooey Deschanel...her sister is Emily who plays Bones on TV. Very lovely talented women, blepharatis and all!
I know we're talking music videos not moviies, but the all time best will always be Ken Adam and his set designs for the Bond franchise!
Zooey
If anyone talks about Zooey Deschanel, Ima punch em in tha face. Sorry for the hostility. Zooey is my girlfriend but doesn't quite know it:)
She and Him are Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward together producing two volumes. In my opinion if anyone would represent midcentury modern furniture, it would definitely be Zooey. Her style and character fit the bill perfectly.
