I'm searching for new ideas of what to buy my 'extravagant' mother-in-law for her 60th birthday! She is very well off and therefore has always spoiled herself! Now, here's my problem-what do you give someone who has everything?! I've already given her many jewelry and other such luxury gifts but I would still really like this gift to be something original that I know she'll appreciate. A friend of mine told me she bought a Reuge music box for her parents for Christmas. It sounded interesting so I check them out on-line, they are quite lovely and definitely original as I've never come across anything quite like them before. However, I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard of Reuge? If so, what do you think of the product and do you think that's an appropriate gift to give a family member like mine?! Thank you kindly for your advice-I really appreciate it!
All the best, Lee
Reuge makes very fine music...
Reuge makes very fine music boxes. I have only had very simple ones by them but even they were of much better quality than those of other manufacturers. One difference is that the notes are perfectly tuned. Cheaper music boxes usually have a few notes that are a little off. Really cheap ones have notes that are way off.
Years ago, the members of the Baltimore Symphony gave a music box to a departing conductor as a gift. A friend of mine was in on the purchasing and she showed it to me. It was one of the 72-note models and played three different classical pieces. It was quite something!
How about
...a handsome donation in the recipient's name
to something significant, like Doctors Without
Borders?
Just a thought.
