Yes
I love the bertoia diamond - I'd keep it brushed chrome with just a seat pad. Super comfy and doesnt need all the extra padding.
MR is expensive...but then so is the Pretzel ;-D
Yeah, sorry about the whole Vitra/Herman Miller thing. My friend at DWR says they constantly get requests to ship oversees. Personally, I'd buy one here and disassemble the whole damn thing. Altho, I do love the Vitra base a little more than the US version.
And screw matching wood tones. All the trees grow together in the forest, if you ask me. As long as its not beech next to maple, next to ash you're fine. Contrast is good!
"Screw matching wood tones ... all trees grow in the forest"
That was hilarious.
Not quite Maple next to Beech next to Ash but:
George Nelson Desk = Walnut;
Pretzel Chair = Rosewood (Santos Palisandes);
Alvar Alto = Beech.
On this score ... (i) what sort of webbing the cloth or the leather; and (ii) why Alvar instead of Risom?
I think the MR would make a fantastic piece. Was incredibly tempted by it. One has got to have a Mies somewhere in the home no? The same way a Bertoia is essential to any collection 😀 (a friend's words).
Just curious LuciferSum, why did you go for brushed chrome instead of polished chrome on your Bertoia. I was thinking of placing an order for the polished chrome one! I've never actually seen a brushed chrome version in the UK!
Utrecht?
Hello Whitespike
Are you talking about the Utrecht by Cassina?

I like
I like the Risom lounge, but I felt like it was a little informal - especially on a list containing Egg, Swan, Eames, & Mies. However - if you like it I wouldnt cross it off. It continues in the line of the organic shape and feel.
Also - I feel Aalto gets overlooked a lot and I've got a softspot in my heart for him. Personally I could afford the webbed version, but if you can spring for leather 🙂
As to the chrome - the bare Bertoia in bright chrome is beautiful - but in an area where space is limited the chrome seems awfully demanding of attention. Brushed is a little softer and silkier.
Don't forget Wegner and KJÆRHOLM
Totally agree with you on Alvar LuciferSum.
POUL KJÆRHOLM is the other dude that gets left out too often. Oh and Wegner.
I don't get Wegner's Ox-Chair but must say am growing fonder of the Wing by the minute. Its incredibly comfortable.
Currently find the Armchair + Ottoman combination very appealing though 😀
Maybe the Alvar Alto Armchair 406 with his Y61 stool could work mmmm.
On the Bertoia Diamond ... gotta say the Chrome beats both the white and the Black indoors. White should definitely stay outdoors.
LuciferSum any chance you could post a photo of your Bertoia diamond in Satin-Chrome finish?
Dont own a Bertoia
GMT - sadly I dont own a bertoia - just saying that if I did need one for a small space I would choose the satin chrome.
I completely forgot about the Wegner Ox chair. Too perfect for words! Or the PK22 if you want a really minimal aesthetic - altho PK seems a little rigid and geometric for what you've already got.
Whatever you decide on I think you should keep it a secret until you post photos 🙂 We'll take bets as to what you picked!
PS: Aalto 406 - good enough for Gropius 😀
406? What did you put in front of it ...
Yup that looks like a 406 but whats in front of it :O
Ohh post photos. OK ^^
Just discovered ... my damn doors are 70cm wide.
Its going to be a bitch to get certain pieces through *swears*.
So for those of you taking bets, that should narrow down the possible choices 😀
Woho
I may be mistaken but isn't...
I may be mistaken but isn't the chair above the Isokon Long chair designed by Marcel Breuer?
