I would appreciate any opinion about selling on eBay.
I posted a Louis Kalff for Philips fifties table lamp (sold USD 81 - ebay ref 281166300133)
I put a picture of it, and in the description, I stated "lacquer loss".
The buyer, "machineaged", a dealer re-selling on 1stdibs ( http://www.anticlopedia.com/) complained about the fact that there were "scratches".
In my opinion, "lacquer losses" = "scratches". Apart of the painting is the lamp perfect, no dents, no damage. The scratches are onto the painting only.
Also, I notice all his lamps on 1stdibs are relaquered.
Why is he complaining?

Unreasonable Ebay Buyer Shock!
Yeah I guess the buyer is being a bit unreasonable but perhaps you haven't protected yourself enough on this occasion? More and better pictures and a more detailed description may have helped, and looking at your feedback (93.5%) it seems like a criticism other people have made?
negative feedback
I think the negative feedback regarding the lack of pics etc was from the buyer he/she is refering to. I think it is quite clear from the picture that the lamp has a bunch of scratches. I have to recant my saying "Not sure why the buyer would complain when it is so obvious" as my big question would be "What does the other side of the lamp look like?" I have to imagine that it looks worse than the side that is imaged as it is only common sense to assume that one would show the best side if only a single pic is used in the add. Maybe it looks like crap and that is why the buyer is pissed. Really didnt think of that before responding.
gogovanbelgik, I asssume you have more pics of the lamp. Can you show them to us?
- "lacquer loss" to me is not equivalent to "scratches"
People on eBay will hold your...
People on eBay will hold your feedback hostage. I am sure I do not have to mention this we all know it. And buyers have all the cards since you can no longer leave them negative feedback, even if they do a chargeback months later and keep your item. Feedback is not an accurate representation on ebay anymore.
These are the scenarios I...
These are the scenarios I have faced.
Customer receives item, delivery confirmation shows as delivered. Customer does chargeback and gets all their money back and the item. I cant leave a negative feedback to warn other sellers.
I sold a camera lens to a customer he says it arrived damaged.
He sends me photos showing the camera lens damaged these are the same sent to paypal. I look at his feedback history and see he bought a damaged lens 2 weeks before he bought mine (photos on listing show the exact damage of the one he sent me). I decline the return due to the fraudulent nature. Customer gets all his money back and my lens. I cant leave him a negative either.
And you have this one all the time, customer does negotiations after the sale and arrival of item. They get the item and then ask for money off the price. This was a classic way to get (powersellers) and I am sure top tiered sellers now to do partial refunds.
So yes the customer holds all the cards, they don't even have to send the items back. There are no investigations, no one will help you. This area of online fraud is not really investigated vigorously yet.
