I have been recently toying with the idea of adding a rug to my living area. I was thinking of placing it under my Nelson bench to add some warmth to the room, but I am worried it might start to look cluttered. What does everyone think?
I have included an image of one rug I spotted below. The Diamond chair is soon being replaced by a black leather Swan, and the Nelson pedestal (now next to the Diamond) is going for a Platner table, and I'll move the lamp inside a little.

I
definitely think you need a texture, just not sure that rug is the right one...I think the curves might fight with all your straight lines?
I've got the same problem myself at the moment, just finished the new sitting room, I have acres of reclaimed mahogany parquet to lay still, but the furniture is in..and I desperately need a rug. (I'll post pics over the weekend)
I'm not sure whether to go the Rya route, or go for something totally stylistically different..perhaps a kilim ?
I see what you are saying...
I see what you are saying Robert, I did think that myself but I have lots of curves in the room within my art, Rar chair, lamp, Nelson table etc so I think it might look ok - I have found another nearly the same which is plain so that could look better.
Get some pictures up of your room, sounds good. I'm not too sure on the Kilim route though, my Dad has a few old rugs and they just look, old!
Here's
the view looking one way
(I'll do the other way tomorrow- there is a red Peter Hvidt sofa on the wall behind where I'm standing)
The room was created from an awful kitchen and a dining room..there was a 'feature' brick wall dividing them!
I still have a mahogany parquet floor to lay, reclaimed from a church hall up north.

nick..love ur room but needs some tweaking, picture should be about 6 inches above couch, new drapes are in order, or add a band at bottom so they reach the floor.
the rug pictured doesnt give enough pop to the room..suggest u take a look at room&board for great cont. rugs.

Got some images below of the new rug, I'm sure some of you won't like it but I love the colour. Nearly finished now in this room, will lower the picture as mentioned probably over the weekend. Just on the look out for the Swan chair in place of the Diamond, and a Platner table in place of the Nelson.
🙂
I think the texture and the colour work Nick but it would be better if the rug were larger. I like Robert's idea of a kilim for his space but there are kilims and kilims...
While agonizing about a rug for my own living room I happened upon the Tarnby jute rug (the large one)at the Ikea bargain basement for half price. I thought I'd get it 'in the meantime' but I think it'll stay as it works so well with the teaks and rosewoods and adds warmth and texture.
Robert The reclaimed mahogany floor sound great. It'll probably be so good that you won't want to cover it up 🙂
Nick,

Nick,
Nice room, i'm particularly envious of the CSS system, so hard to find a decent one here in UK.
not sure if you're after a new or vintage Platner table, but if it's the former, Knoll are holding their annual sample sale @ their London studio in Clerkenwell on December 6th.
Should be some bargains to be had if you don't mind ex display/photoshoot items.
I'll be looking out for a Florence Knoll sofa as a i've drawn a blank on a reasonable priced vintage piece.

Thanks for the comments, I...
Thanks for the comments, I agree a larger rug would have looked better but the room isn't that big and I didn't want to drown it.
Paul I actually have a large CSS for sale, about 4 modules including the drop down desk unit. Thanks for the tip about the Knoll sale, I always prefer vintage but if it's a good deal then I'll be interested!
