I bought this artwork yesterday and I know nothing about art at all. It just looked very interesting to me and had a great MCM look. It is pretty large and is made completely out of vinyl, wood, and pvc. The wood frame matches the wood on the front. It doesn't have any signatures or markings anywhere on it. Any kind of help or info would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

?
Was PVC pipe available in the mid-century? Could it be a more recent execution? Show a picture of the backside.
Best,
Mark

That is really a PVC pipe and not a painted wooden rod?
It looks similar to Witco, but I've not sense such a hard edges modern composition by them. Like Mark said, please show a picture of the back. There are a couple of telltale construction details that would be present and would help me tell you if I think it is really vintage Witco.

Killian - That's awesome! I...
Killian - That's awesome! I totally missed that. I really appreciate all your help. I've been wanting to buy some of the furniture forum volumes for awhile now but they always go for more than I want to spend. I've looked a little and haven't been able to find much about Chicago Hardware Foundry and their furniture production.
Pegboard - The white rod is grey pvc that has been spray painted white. I read that grey pvc was used more commonly on homes built in the 1970's? I do see the similarities to witco pieces, mostly the finish on the wood. The back on this seems to be different than a witco piece though.
The measurements are 49" (H) x 49" (L) x 3.5" (D). There are some other handwritten measurements on the back and a place that looks like where a price sticker was removed? The guy I bought it from told me he bought this one along with 2 more similar pieces from a older woman's home. That's all he could tell me about them though. It does show age in some spots, I'm thinking it's probably from around the 1970's?

Torched pine details...
Torched pine...says 70's-80's to me. I have never seen that on a 50's or 60's piece. They took butane torches and scorched pieces of pine to get that look. They did it a lot in wood shop classes.

Regarding the plywood back...
The "Tested DFPA Quality" circle stamp is a trademark of the APA first used in 1964/'65 and was let expire in 1985. There's a code there too that says 'ps 1-66'. I initally wondered if 66 was a year code but I found out ps stands for product standard, and I could not confirm that these plywood stamps had any date codes at all on them. the year of manufacture for the plywood back piece. I believe with the trademark it means it was made no earlier than '65 and maybe sometime between then and '85.
All that said, There's something about it that says 70s student project. Dunno.
