The desk I wanted was by IKEA, the GALANT. Went to purchase it and found the glass was white and not clear. The other options they had in glass just didn't do it. I am staging a room and need a clear glass top so it doesn't make the room look small. I want the oval shape because it makes it easier to move in the room. I did check prices on purchasing the glass separate and making the table myself, but shipping was very high. I looked at CB2, West Elm and Bo Concept, but they have nothing. I really don't want to spend a lot even though I will probably keep the table after if I have the room since I do like the look. Thanks! ~Elle

Look in the yellow pages for places that sell glass. You can get any size and shape tabletop made of tempered glass. Local, no shipping.

A custom cut oval desk top would probably cost upwards of $300
... at least in New York.
Perhaps Ikea uses white opaque glass on this desk because the base/ legs might not look so attractive, viewed from above(?). (The four legs must be connected somehow, under that glass top-- maybe it's not suitable for display.)
How about the West Elm chrome sawhorse glasstop desk? Not curved, but not bad looking.

Craigslist
Craigslist, Target, etc.. should be able to find an inexpensive piece at most retailers that cater to college students.

Glass desk
Buy a couple useful stainless carts, with drawers and shelves, add a big tempered glass top.

Thanks for your stainless...
Thanks for your stainless steel option, but the room needs a "clear" glass top in order to show off the floor. If I put anything down that is solid (I do have several desks that are solid, one white and one light wood and they just don't work) the rooms look very cramped. I am thinking of the West Elm saw horse or calling my local glass company to see what they can do for me. I'm not sure if NYC could do what I want for under $300, but will check it out.
