Ite-
I was relatively sure you weren't offended-- but the sentence, "It is only considered rude to attack people" could be taken two ways, so I erred on the side of caution by apologizing. Glad my apology was unnecessary.
Back to floor lamps...

How about a Nelson bubble lamp?
I think it looks good even shoved into this corner, and it seems to meet your requirements. It's hard to tell from the low-quality cellphone photos, but a 150W bulb lights up the whole room without any harshness; that Noguchi lamp you're considering doesn't really get very bright.
The tripod base is unfortunately out of production...

Don't hate me...
But I throw "designed by" out the window when it comes to lighting. That's not to say there are not many wonderful and important pieces out there, and I often use them, but I'm just as likely to go with something completely random and one-off, if it fits the space well.
Here's a piece I saw the other day while searching for an old tripod to convert with a shade off an Abbey "Buster" floor lamp... I would jump on it, but the space I'm doing needs more of a 40's/50's industrial vibe, and this reads a little earlier to me, although going by the auction description, it's apparently a recent construct...
Dressed right it should play nicely with many of the same spaces the 14A will, although it's not as clean as the Castore...

Hi
fastfwd- I do like that iteration of the Nelson cigar... Too bad that base is not still being made!
Starter- I agree with you. I'm not necessarily looking for a designer piece. I have been perusing eBay et al. for random pieces, but for me it would have to be rather cheap. If not, I would rather get a classic design. I have plenty of IKEA lighting around the house right now, and it's perfectly fine and functional. I just want to get something a bit nicer now.
Thank you all for indulging me!

Another great place for lamps...
Is Target, believe it or not. The "package" (lamp and shade) offerings are pretty weak, but my local store has mostly separate lamps and shades, the idea being to build your own... and you can build some pretty hot stuff. Averages $40-$60 out the door. I just built a very cool vintage-look table lamp consisting of a black/bronze adjustable tripod lamp and a brown faux lizard skin shade with parchment inner...
