Hi guyz (not gender-specific)... Need ideas for a "new" floor lamp. I like the Noguchi 14A and the Castore. Haven't found too many others that strike my fancy. Obviously, I would prefer to get vintage if possible.

Thanks!

How about
the Sonneman Treluci lamp? I sure like mine.

I'm looking for a single bulb/fixture type... Thanks for the input though!

personal favorites
Here's some of my personal favorites:
Claritas floor lamp by Vico Magistretti and Mario Tedeschi
AJ floor lamp by Arne Jacobsen
Panthella Floor lamp by Verner Panton
the Fortuny floor lamp
Fantasma Floor Lamp by Tobia Scarpa
and the list goes on...

I like the AJ, but I am looking for something that gives more ambient light rather than directed light. The Fantasma is very nice but way out of my price range. Thanks for your suggestions.
P.S. Do you have a photo of the Claritas?

I love my AJ lamp, one of my fav things but I agree it is very dim and only good for a small reading lamp. Will rack my brains this evening for you..

I agree, Fantasma is pricey! What about Falkland Terra by Bruno Munari? somewhat similar but a lot more price friendly.
I can't find a nice Claritas picture to post in my files, however, you can find more info on Omikron Design's website, as they are the reissuer. I have no idea how much they cost though.

hmm, let's see..
Perhaps we can find a great wooden floorlamp ? ;o) How about a Rispal floorlamp (photo 1), or something elegant with just a touch of wood (picture 2) Unfortunately, I believe these buggers are a bit pricey.
I really do like the falkland lamp suggestion made earlier though: very lovely shape & moody light.

I would also like to point out, like Castore, Artemide has some other really nice floor lamps.
I like their price point too (very affordable in comparison to something similar in Flos)

Awk.
Hope this comment isn't considered gratuitously rude, but I can't STAND that Rispal lamp. (There, I said it!)
Argh! The design's SO random and chaotic! The legs so ill-considered in reference to the "sculptural" titted bit. All those awful discordant curves and arcs! The Nelsonesque bubble hanging like a hooked fish! Blecch! A grotesque pastiche, like the worst kitschy 1950's American modern. Part George Nelson, part Jean Arp, part spare parts culled from the scrap bin.
(Sorry. I'm sure I'll regret this outburst in the morning, but this lamp makes my blood boil. I go berserk, like Billy Jack!)

Hey William, i think it is only considered rude to attack people. I can't see why one should like every single design ever produced. Even though we disagree on this one (I actually like the lamp), I enjoyed your post ! Made me smile to read it - and you have a point with the Arp reference. So I am offering to help you: if you are ever forced to live with a Rispal lamp, you may always send it to me ! ;oD

Ite--I'm sorry
I didn't mean to attack YOU, just the lamp. I know it's bad form to criticize something that someone else likes; I'm an asshole and couldn't stop myself, such is my hatred for that friggin' lamp.
Since you didn't personally design it, and it's a highly-regarded design that sells for a good chunk of change at auction, I thought I could sneak in my dissenting opinion.
Apologies. I blame that third glass of wine I had with dinner-- it brought out the design-addict beast in me. 🙂

William, I am honestly NOT offended in the least. There is no need to apologize, bc you did nothing wrong !
I thought I said that earlier as well - but as English is only my third language, I probably do not always get across what I mean. (So please also forgive me for any possible typos that I am making.)

I knew that you weren't offended. 🙂
