So . . .
how about clear vinyl tubing, weighted with a short piece of steel rod inserted into the bore at the bottom of each strand.
It's like vertical blinds -- either you love them or you can't stand them. These partitions will appeal to some as a way to play with space, while others won't see the point to them at all. De gustibus . . .
They're kind of a throwback to an earlier era of modernism.

WHC,
it already looks messy and it has just been put up, no? Imagine vacuuming that sucker every other week. No thanks!
Of course, every time you vacuum it, it's just going to get looser and looser.

SDR said,
"As to the basic form, the idea is a space division, not a real barrier or privacy wall."
Right, except that the people who work in that space said that they wanted privacy for the office area. Maybe their definition of privacy is vastly different than mine? It's possible.

.
At first I liked it, then I clicked on the link and saw the flaccid one...I do like the colour and smell of jute though and think that after a few weeks it would stop shedding, functionally though I think its not so good.
Maybe hanging sheets of thick brown craft paper (waxed?) would work, it comes in huge rolls and would be easy enough to fold and glue the top and bottom and insert some strips or wood for weight and attaching to the cieling
