Hi,
Has anyone been to the Lille Braderie flea market before? I'm planning on going with a friend in September and hoping to pick up plenty. What is it like for 20th century furniture & lighting?
I've been told there is no way you would be able to take a van into the city during the market so wondering how i would get my purchases back to an out-of-town hotel & van without multiple trips on the metro - or am I being too optimistic about finding lots of things? Any ideas on the most convenient place to stay?
Thanks for any advice!

I go most years (from London) - its true that parking and transport is a real problem so I usually arrive in the early hours of Saturday (when you can still get fairly close in - Rue Jean sans Peur is often a good bet for parking) and park up and catch up on some sleep! You don't see the high end stuff there like you used to it has to be said (I've found amazing things there in the past)and although I bought reasonably last September I won't bother this year if the exchange rate is still bad.
Thanks paulanna
that is really helpful, thank you. Do you stay over for the Sunday as well or just do the Saturday? Is there much furniture or does it tend to be smaller stuff? Just wondering about the logistics if I see something too large to carry round all day...or having to trek miles back to the van.
We were thinking of getting down there Friday night and staying over in Lille and then probably coming back Sunday - does that sound wise?
Thanks 🙂

I have stayed til Sunday a few times when its a lot more relaxed than the frantic Saturday. You'll walk so much on the first day you may just want to sit outside a cafe on Sunday!. There's plenty of furniture and lighting. If you're going to stay in a hotel in Lille itself that would be perfect as you could take purchases there. My best advice is to buy what you like and worry about dragging it to you car or van afterwards! A cheap bicycle (one that you can leave behind if you're van is full) can be a great help and you'll need a good trolley.
