Hi. This chair was another chair my friend has been wondering about for a while. I sit it in it a lot while I'm over there, and wondered what you guys think. Leather seat, and back. Iron frame. It swivels around. Very comfortable. No name anywhere. I found a Max Gottschalk chair that looked similar, but wasn't 100%.

Seeking Help
Any ideas on who designed the chair. It seems that Leathercrafters NY was the maker or manufacturer. Often times the designer and manufacturer are separate entities. My question is, could this be an actual Max Gottschalk design? We can place him in NY at the time these were manufactured. Also does anyone have any additional information on Leathercrafters NY.
Thanks

Daniel Wenger
made a series of chairs and footstools similar to this design.
He is credited in a few volumes of the old California Design annuals. Although similar, your chair doesn't look like it was designed by him.
Here's a link from Esoteric Survey on Wenger.

I think you will find it's actually by California architect Luther Conover.

You still won't be 100%...
You still won't be 100% with below if you don't trust sources. They may have all followed someone who assumed a while back or then maybe not.
I would enjoy it regardless as it's a very nice piece.
The 3rd link says nothing but may help link some info you have as Luther designed pieces for many companies.
It does seem quite complex compared to his other designs but it's the company who makes it.

Luther Conover did not...
Luther Conover did not design pieces "for many companies". He did most, if not all, his designs for his own company Conover co, inc.

alexandersforum FTW
William Katavolos has a website and the chair is on it.
Also,
"ROWENA AWARD
The 2012 Rowena Reed Kostellow Award was presented to Bill Katavolos on March 8, 2012 at the Knoll Showroom in New York City"
So he's, you know, legit.

Guilty as charged
Well the conclusion to this mystery seem to be definitive. "Foreman of the jury you now may read the verdict". Design Addict Superstars we find Mr. William Katavolos guilty as charged by a preponderance of evidence.
We move now to have all previous designer attributions removed from the records. We also ask that Mr. Gottschalk and Mr. Conover be release with no future attributions to either of these gentlemen's body of works. Finally we recommend that you give Mr. Katavolos full recognition for the design of this chair.
We would like to thank all of the design addict superstars for their honest testimony in this case. Thank you and congratulations on your success!
