I know Le Corbusier was a avant - garde designer and was probably the most influential modernist fiqure, But is there any one in the U.S.A. that can tell me any buildings that he designed in this country . I know he did the Secreate Building at the United Nations
and designed some great chairs. I find it interesting that he was influenced by Adolf Loos polemic ORNAMENT AND CRIME (which linked surface
decoration to decadence, dishonesty, and waste).

It is my understanding
It's my understanding that the only building LC did by himself in the US was the Carpenter Center at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. I walk past it on my way to work, altho I've not had a chance to explore the interior.

Actually, the building
is quite lyrical, in a dry sort of way. As you can see in the aerial view (see More Images on the great buildings page) there are many curves to the horizontal planes of the building -- which you can walk through via the ramped walkway, which penetrates the structure and connects the streets on either side. It is a pleasure to see such idiosyncratic details as the simple bar-stock handrail, and the asymmetrical kneewall, on this walkway.
