Anyone have any info on this company? I'm a bit hesitant to simply piece things together online since there isn't much info to begin with. I'm curious however as to why these lamps, and especially the brass pieces are suddenly so collectible. I've found and purchased several recently for pennies on the dollar and have seen the same lamps going for hundreds online without any indication as to why the price tags.
Any help you can offer is most appreciated.
Laurel is GOOD
We are into Danish MCM. We love many designers and have many pieces with a strong European leanings - but we also love many American pieces.
The Laurel lamps are exceptional and we recently purchased our first one.
The mushroom lamp, or tulip base lamp, I see it referred to as both. But I see a wide range of designs by Laurel out there, some are far more sought after than others.
The mushroom lamp we recently got has center stage among our lamps, it is a really beautiful piece and worth the money IMO.The heavy glass, the even distribution of the glow in the shape is simply excellent.
Although we got ours cheaper than the usual ebay prices (we paid well under $150) we would pay that and a bit more again in a heartbeat to get another one, but not the $500 so many sellers on eBay want for them.
Most are definitely pieces you can buy based on the design and style and forget the label that comes with it.
Like my partner says, if you bu a piece and love it, it really doesn't matter who made it.
I have been sharking around for more and the prices simply hold up well on them, you can wait a while for a good deal or submit to your temptation now and buy one.
The only way cure for temptation is to give into it. 🙂 Enjoy.
In my experience the LL with ...
In my experience the LL with chrome bases, particularly when they have glass shades, are really in demand and fetching great prices. Of the 3 you have, I'd say the first one at the top is the best. The other 2 are more run of the mill but you might get $40 or $50 for them from a Danish modern collector - probably more if you have a pair.
Laurel Markings
Are there any markings on Laurel Lamps? I've seen a base with an LL in script on one lamp, and an ebay seller states that they frequently had white switches.
I just bought this brass pair (they are very very heavy) and one has a white switch, but I have no idea if they are Laurel.
