vintage fabric part two
Today I found four pieces of vintage fabric mounted on stretcher strips. The second two are Katsuji Wakisaka Karuselli fabric for Marimekko 1973 (34x50) and Jytte Willis fabric International Printworks Inc 1981 (46x50). They are in excellent vintage condition (no holes, tears or other blemishes exist) and were priced at $4.97 each. I will remove them from the strips, have them cleaned (I know the correct people) and remount them for display.
tchp- One of my favorite designs of all time - excellent score! A local dealer had a pair of Japan sofas for some time (over a year) and I drooled over them weekly, but couldn't afford both and knew I'd go to furniture hell (furnished by La-Z-Boy) if I split up the set. Your contrasting cushion will be stunning.
tchp, I am green again.
I love the Japan chair. I redid one for someone who got hers for nothing but the original seat was missing! It must have gotten broken and the owner tossed it and stuck a piece of plywood on there. Anyway, she took it to a well known specialist in Danish furniture restoration who certainly knew the importance of making the new one exactly like the original. But he didn't make it like the original at all. It was significantly off in at least two ways and was also made too narrow and then pine strips were added to the sides to make it wider. And that was after 10 months of waiting for it.
And that is my only Japan chair story. That was a couple of years ago and I still feel sad for that chair.
