HI!
My parents had this exact Walnut chest (see photo I found on the web). Similar to a posting on disignaddict, it has the serial number, etc... stenciled on the back. The numbers are 54, 315-11,and 3765240. Based on what I've read, this indicates it was made April 25, 1967 at plant #3. The style is 315 ("Fresh", according to one website) and 11 indicates it is a 5-drawer chest. My question is this: Every source I've seen so far on identifying furniture says it "must" have a "Lane" mark/brand somewhere. We have looked it over thoroughly and this piece does not. I know that my parents purchased this around '67. My understanding is these pieces were meant to be affordable, so the idea of counterfeiting by a contemporary maker seems pretty far-fetched. It is nicely made, with dovetailed drawers, solid woods throughout. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks!

I thought Lane was middle end...
I thought Lane was middle end in quality right? I didn't know they were consider high end. Also this design does remind of a few American of Martinsville pieces too.

Serial number clues?
Thanks for the response! I have no idea how to identify furniture (obviously). Is it possible that different manufacturers would have the same serial number systems?
