among other things, i think panton's stuff is insightful, creative and highly energetic. i also think it's not the answer to every residential interior. far from it.
as we know, interior designers use everything at their disposal to communicate a message, convey a mood and create opportunities for the varied purposes of their work. i'm in agreement with you that i want my home--for the most part--to be a place of peace, relaxation and tranquility...a sanctuary from the noise of commerce and pressures of life. however, this is not the purpose of all rooms everywhere.
as in music, differences in interior styles could be considered inherently neutral. it's in their application where they can be more rightly held under the lamp of more intense scrutiny.
i understand...you've not said anything about panton's stuff not having it's rightful place; your comments were simply about personal preference, which we all have even if we're not brave enough to admit it. i personally don't care for pale pink...until it comes to a desirable color for my gum tissue and paying a visit to my dental hygenist. it then suddenly becomes my "favorite" color.
i think there are plenty of interiors that would be well-served by the styles and color combinations introduced [and dare i suggest "perfected"] by panton. similar to the lighting used in surgical theatres the world over, what's appropriate there is certainly not what's desired in my home where i'm listening to smooth jazz and sipping on irish cream.
this is my living room ...
this is my living room where we entertain, I find nothing offensive about Pantons unique style of furniture ,
I am not criticizing anyone for having a opinion , cause lets face it , that does make the world go round, and if we all like the same thing we would be living in a very boring place,
Years ago when in college and wondering what i wanted to be when i grew up . still wondering ?
I thought it would be fun for a moment to be a buyer in a department store, mens clothing of course , but somewhat said to me and I never forgot it , Yes but what you like someone else will not like, and not only your job could be at risk, your reputation, and other things,
So you wonder well how does this relate it goes back to a opinion. what one designer likes another one dislikes and so forth and so forth, you can not make every one happy, Pantons work was not for everyone but the ones who own his stuff do love it I for one do,
flowerpot
I recently fell for an original enameled Flowerpot in ultramarinish blue. It currently hangs with my otherwise earth toned, mostly 50s stuff.
Friends who looked after our house and cats during our recent trip loved every bit of it.
Except for the Flowerpot.
I had a hard time admitting my first reaction was similar: it just doesn't quite sit nicely.
Blue Flowerpot anyone?
