I found an interesting cup at a thrift store yesterday. The base is pink and the handle black, with the body white. On the bottom it is labeled "Mayer China designed by Alexander Girard - La Fonda Del Sol". I was wondering if this would be worth listing in an auction or should I just keep it to enjoy myself? I just wanted to ask if others collected this particular line.
The colors and shape caught my eye and it wasn't until later when I got home that the name rang a bell as being associated with Henry Miller. I did find a nice website that had quite a bit of history about this line but it didn't get into the current popularity at all.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hello black651.
I'm a huge fan of Alexander Girard and I too once had this cup in my collection. I sold it on eBay for $92, though that was pretty high. The cup and other china items from the Le Fonda del Sol restaurant are very rarely seen in Europe, so I guess two European collectors got into a bit of a fight over it. Usually these cups sell for around $60 per cup.
I'm not sure which site you visited, but this one's completely dedicated to Girar's restaurant:

great cups
I would keep the cups if you don't need the money they a re not making any more of them .
My mom took me to that restaurant 40 years ago and i thought it was so cool as a 16 year old i was sorry when they closed there doors in 1971
I have about 10 of the the La Fonada chairs they were covered in toots stripe that you can now buy from maharam and the other was miller stripe. Love them they are great
