Too
bad there's no obvious way that the LCW could have had arm rests -- is there ? That always eases the problem of lowering oneself into (and raising oneself out of) a low chair.
While there is some debate (or is there ?) about whether the equally low-slung Red/Blue chair of Rietveld was ever intended to be used, at least it has arms !

First off to WoofWoof. The price is explained because these are vintage LCWs. The dining height chairs tend to be more common, epecially the metal legged versions. The lounge chairs are always much more in demand. These appear to be the ash veneer - and the color suggests that they are fairly old. The chairs went out of production in 57 and were reintroduced in 99 - so the vintage ones are REALLY vintage.
Second - I love the LCW. I get up by putting both hands on the edges of the seat. I had one person hoist themselves out of mine by placing one hand on the backrest - I alomst killed them! That person is only allowed to sit in non-eames chairs at present 🙂 (incidentally - I can't imagine owning a vintage LCW - the guilt of accidentally breaking something that old would be horrible)

Lucifersum, my dear mother...
Lucifersum, my dear mother did that too. I couldn't bear to tell her the first time, hoping that it was just a one time lapse of proper LCW dismounting etiquette. The second time, well, I had to tell her then. And now she refuses to sit in it. I probably should have instructed her before she sat in it for the first time. But as long as the chair isn't hurt...
As for altering furniture to suit one's needs, I am all for it, regardless of how iconic it may be. I see it is a legitimate, unique and often fascinating expression of the relationship between an object and its user. It is after all furniture, not art or something from an archaeological excavation.

Vintage vs rarity...
The LC & DC varities are both. BUT, I make an exception with the rarity part. These are just not that rare. Without knowing the true production runs, seems almost as ubiquitous as the molded fiberglass & plastic chairs.

Ahh come on,people,get real !!
Before you know it,they'll make a tilt back recliner out of the womb chair.Or maybe an Eames 670 with a bolt on snack tray.IMO, the extensions look hideous, and throw off the whole rakish balance of the original LCW.Come to think of it,they did jack up the rear leaf springs on Mustangs and Camaros back in the day.My quote of the day:"Leave well enough alone" should apply to the LCW.
