Hello,

I'm considering buying a sofa equipped with kvadrat fabric. I've not yet had samples, but I'm looking for anyone who would already have used/tested/seen furniture using Remix2 fabric.

Compared to Hallingdal, it seems thinner, with fibers of a smaller diameter, that's what I find interesting

(less scratchy maybe ? more resilient to a cat trying to hold on it (I hope)...), maybe more comfortable too.

but it's hard to tell from a picture - or a small sample at that.

Thanks for any tip on this product !

Regards,

Squalou

It's very thin, like the fabric used in
a man's summer suit (but wool). It's smooth and not very scratchy, if at all. I think it has a high wear rating despite being thin.
I don't know about its being resistant to cat damage or being less attractive to cats who claw fabric. It's very smooth in texture. You should order a sample from Maharam. It's free if you're in the US---maybe abroad, too, I dunno. They will get it to you within a few days.
Downsides: it is so thin that it will show any unevenness in the padding so the upholstery must be done very skillfully. And adhesive bleeds through it, which I say here more for others who might be considering it for pieces that require fabric to be adhered directly to foam. This is not a factor in most upholstered pieces.
I used it on some dining chairs (customer's request) and it showed oily stains really badly right away but if you don't eat while sitting on your sofa, you should be ok. But I would worry about arm rests looking grubby sooner than they would in more textured fabrics.

Indeed I've ordered a sample, along with a steelcut trio and hallingdal sample to compare.
From what you say, I'm not sure it will fit for my daily sofa... taking the breakfast with my kid on it for instance.
(and playing and... ok, definitely will have to be resistant not only to abrasion, that's were too thin may be unfit)

I think you're fine as far as
durability with the Remix. Even though it's thin, it has a wear rating of 100,000+ which is very high. But it's so smooth that I think any little stain is going to really stand out. Maybe not so much in a dark color like charcoal gray. My experience was with a light, bright green.
Hallingdal is kind of scratchy but oh so beautiful. I like Steelcut a lot--it's woven of a smoother wool and I don't find it to be scratchy at all. I like the Trio colors more than the solids and I think they will hide dirt better.
If you're eating on the sofa, I'd see if you can get Maharam to put a Teflon coating on it. They might only do that on full bolts, I dunno. You can get spray Scotchguard if they don't. Or just eat at the table!

I've received the...
I've received the samples.
even if after all remix is not 'that' thin (of course it is, compared to halligndal), I much, much, prefer Steelcut fabric.
the remix colours are worked as to be not completely uniform, and it's a terchnical success, but it's not for me.
Steelcut in soft tones just looks fantastic, is very soft to the touch, looks resistant enough, and it's a piece of technical beauty which tends to speak to my engineer mind..
(as for the cat, ... anyway i'll cover the sofa for 1 or 2 years with some plaids when I'm not there. she's old, very old)
too bad the color 153 is too dark for my home, i'm really fond of the fabric in this colout:)
once again, thanks for the advices !
