Should all Harry Bertoia wire chairs have a Knoll stamp somewhere on the underside of the chair or was this something issued at a certain point in time after production had begun ?
My reason for asking is that I have a set of Bertoia wire chairs that I purchased from an estate that was packed with genuine early 1960s knoll pieces. The chairs I got were in a bit of a mess underneath and the full wool / tweed covers needed to be replaced and I only have a vague recollection of them having a Knoll sticker but I cannot be certain. I got an enquiry asking me to confirm they are stamped...I believe the chairs are Knoll but there is no stamp to be found. Can anyone shed some light on this for me please ?
Many thanks.
Killian.
Knoll
I don't think Knoll started stamping the Bertoia chairs until the 1990's. I believe the only positive ID you can get from vintage chairs is the tag on the seat cushions. I however wouldn't have a reason to think they are fakes since they came from the source of other clearly marked pieces. Knockoff's of Bertoia items were not an issue in the 1960's and 1970's.
