Does anyone know if this Nakashima chair is comfortable? Knoll has brought it back for DWR. I like the look of it.

It should be
I have 2 Paul McCobb black 'arm' chairs and 2 'side' chairs, which are similar to this chair, and they're both quite comfortable. (kitchen dinette)

Picture of it
Very similar in concept to the Nakashima, isn't it? (the black chairs are called armchairs and the maple are side chairs....)

DWR visit
I went to DWR to try out the Nakashima chair and take a look at the Girard Knoll table. Although my 6ft tall body found the chair to be uncomfortable, it's really nice and the look of the solid Walnut makes it worth $650usd(I'd like to have it for the looks). Now the Girard table is crappy and looks cheap with a huge price of $750usd. The legs look like something from Ikea(or cheaper) and the wood top looks like something you would get at Target. My intention of buying it flushed away once I got with 5 feet of it.

Thats interesting - I had almost the exact opposite reaction to the Girard table. When I saw it in the DWR catalog I thought it was funny and cheap looking. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it up close...still a little pricey for a piece of plywood - but I get it. I'm still waiting for the DWR near me to get the Nakashima chair so I can try it out. It is SO beautiful in the pictures.

Nakashima source
Forgive my ignorance (or laziness, which amounts to the same thing now that we have Google), but can't one buy Nakashima chairs from Nakashima's workshop in eastern Pennsylvania? Incidentally, there was a nice little Nakashima show in Pittsburgh this fall; see link for images.

OK...
I guess what goes around, comes around...if the concept was good.
Nobody ever accused McCobb of being original!

You will really like the Nakashima chair, it's solid and the walnut reminds me of an Eames stool. I hyped myself up with the Girard table and went there to buy one, but those legs were turned me off and I didn't like the finish on the wood top(It may have been the actual one I saw). If the table would have been solid wood or a better veneer, then I would have went for it. While at DWR did you see the Saarinen Rosewood oval coffee table, It's a work of art.

The Winsdor Chair
The 'Windsor' chair has been a traditional chair form for hundreds of years in northern Europe.
Both Great Britain and Sweden have a long tradition of such chairs.
