I'm flattered that you'd ask, Niceguy.
But, to me, there are so many variables involved in any given purchase consideration that it's simply impossible to offer an opinion in general terms.
As you may know, my background is in museum collections and I've worked alongside curators, collectors, conservators, dealers, auctioneers, donors, and heirs for my entire adult life. I won't say that I've seen it all, though I've witnessed successes, failures, triumphs and disasters when it comes to acquisitions.
Condition is always a priority, but rarity, desirability, availability, and price will also factor into a decision.
I will say, however, that while dumb luck does occasionally come into play (witness "Antiques Roadshow"), the most consistent results are achieved by those most knowledgeable as to subject and current market, at least by my observation.
And, of course, it helps to have the right friends sometimes, too!
