Has anyone tried one of these conical hand vacs by Dirt Devil? It is actually a decent looking design and I say this as not a fan of either hand vacs or Karim Rashid. But I need to get one of these types of devices and wanted to know if the performance was good. Good design is useless without good functionality!

Guest room
I put one in my guest room & bath so there's a little vac for hair clippings and any little crud to encourage guests to tidy up w/o lugging the vac upstairs. It's attractive, works well and the nite light is very cool. The on/off button seems awkward, it's a push button at the point.

Not bad, not bad a'tall...
Well! Karim Rashid seems finally to have dsigned something I really like (not that he gives a rat's arse). I thin kat the end of the day he is a much better product sdesigner than he is a furniture designer or architect. But, I must say, the Kone performs quite well. It may be more of a testimony for the engineers at DirtDevil that KR's effort, but the Kone really sucks! It seems to have a much higher RPM motor than other similar products we've tgried previously and it really collects up the messes. It's also easy to hold, easy to clean and charges up in a flash. I'd truly recommend it.

Just curious, Olive, what made you choose it?
Were you able to try it out? Or did you read a review? Or did it have the most powerful specs? Or did you just like the look of the design? Or was it price?

A little of everything
I'd seen it in a short review article in a magazine (Metropolis, I think it was). That article had talked mostly of the design appearance. I thought at the time, that it looked good and I wouldn't mind it sitting out in a corner somewhere. Then I saw it at Target. I couldn't turn it on but I took it all out of the box and checked it out. Next I started this thread and got James' good review. So I bought the thing and tried it out. Since I'd been very disappointed in these types of units in the past, I tested it's strength on aquarium gravel and was pretty impressed. And it was only $40USD, so there you have it.

I think there is a joke in there somewhere
Something about "Olive"and "Martini"...
One is not enough, two is just right, and at three you might have to admit to having "tee many martoonies" 😉

vacuous
Greetings,
Hate to have my first post be a negative reveiw but...I have the Kone vac and while I love the looks of it (champagne color is sublime!) I am not so happy with the function.
I bought it to use with my wood stove to pick up random bits of ash, wood, etc. Since the intake nozzle is on an angle, to pick up debris one must tilt it, which makes the vent fans on the side blow all the schmutz around before the vac can pick it up. Rather frustrating in my experience. (Can you hear me now, Karim?)
Thanks for providing a forum such as this, I could not very well write a letter to the editor in my tiny town!

I must agree with that point
I don't think it works awfully well with ash. Tend to blow out the vent. I'm happier just using a small hand broom for that job. But the Kone is really useful for other messes, like kitty kibble spills or schmutz, crumbs etc.
