Hi all,
I know there have been several threads on how to tell if a wishbone chair is authentic, and I thought this anecdote might be useful.
I was at an auction preview recently and looking at the pair of chairs they'd listed as authentic Wegner. The chairs were CERTAINLY old.... but I could tell they were wrong. The back piece was solid wood, not laminated, the side verticals were not totally round, the tops of the legs were too square. I found the specialist and told her my suspicions, and she was skeptical, thought maybe they were just very early production... Then I went and looked the chairs over some more, and found a faintly impressed "Made in Spain" on the leg. She changed her description.
So there you go: old, vintage knock-offs of Wegner wishbone chairs.

Sounds about right. I just saw some recent knockoffs, and they were very accurate, but the rear legs were not round in cross section. They were actually hand carved, in fact as they were not consistent. But you could only tell this by touch.
