Julius Shulman: Modernism Rediscovered (Hardcover)
I have been reading in various magazines about several new books coming out on Julius Shulman who i find has had a unreal career and still works at 97 the books looks nice but for g-ds sake $300 nice
you could have a nice Nelson bench, or a nice lamp ; I can not understand why these books should be so expensive
I was once accused of...
I was once accused of knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing and then I had a think about that... I've paid upwards of 300 for a few of my books and the knowledge, pleasure and understanding they've given me I couldn't put a price on.
The world price of paper changes constantly (upwards a lot of the time) , small runs of anything are very expensive, photographers have to get paid, furniture has to be hired, writers employed.
Most good books are quite cheap I think and unless you're prepared to buy the best you inevitably purchase information that is shoddy. I've got Taschen books that make the most basic errors and print images upside down. I don't buy them anymore becuase the information is just that, no creative or critical thought, just boring words and photographs everyones seen a billion times, its uninspiring.
