Hello all;
I have aquired a NoHo John Keal for Brown Saltman coffee table. This table is 18.5 high X 26.75 square with three folding side tables stored under the top. I have only been able to find one other table like it. It is in chicago at an antique dealer for about 3700.00 Does anyone else out there have one, or know of one?
Let me know
Gary

What is the condition of your single table? I might be interested for $50. Also where are you located approx. for shipping to orange county California.

John Keal Table
I have the same table with the three folding tables inside. I would be willing to sell for $800.

Cool table, but
I know the table you are speaking of.
I love the John Keal for Brown Saltman stuff. You can see my black and white JK coffee table and end tables in this photo.
the JK stuff is cool, but not $3K cool. It takes a certain buyer. When I was looking for my tables I would frequently see John Keal coffee tables of different flavors go for around $800-$1500 if they were in good condition. The black and white tables seemed to be the most popular. Those and the big, expanding blocky one always seemed to sell for a good price. The nesting tables seemed to be less popular and the ceramic tile square side tables the cheapest/least poplar.
assuming your table is in good shape I could imagine you getting 500-800 for it.

What is your reference for the Keal attribution for your coffee and end tables?

nothing official
Everywhere I've ever seen those tables, they're attributed to John Keal. A google search of "brown saltman black & white table" will land numerous results that attribute it to JK.
It seems commonly accepted that he designed them. I'm assuming that someone, somewhere confirmed it.

Black and white
I have seen this one with a Brown Saltman label so that is confirmed but never have I been able to find one of those coffee tables that you have with any makers mark on it. Makes me wonder if the attribution just got passed on by "assumption" because it has a black and white top? None of the tables that pop up on the google search state they have any type of "labels" on them.
I only question this because I have the same coffee table. Would be nice to find an old saltman catalogue.

That's really interesting!
Never crossed my mind that none of the examples I've ever seen lack any brown saltman mark, but if you check out pretty much every other Brown Saltman coffee table, their logo appears on the bottom.
I found this set of images that show an inspection tag and date of 11/25/58
If only we could find Leroy and ask him!

Brown Saltman catalogs are...
Brown Saltman catalogs are extremely hard to find. I've seen a photo of the cover of one. I remember reading that they had a policy of requiring the return of the old catalog before they'd send a new catalog, so dealers and such didn't have old catalogs laying around. And then the factory burned down taking all that documentation with it.
