Hi,
1st off - thanks to everyone who posts on this forum. I've learned a ton!
And now to my question...I picked up a walnut Jens Risom Desk and Credenza on Craigslist for $300. They are in great condition, apart from some water rings. However, the desk is missing two of the levels.
Does anyone have any idea where I might be able track a couple down? (I've tried ebay etc.)
The levels are about 2.5" high / 2" in diameter. I've attached a couple pics.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Your photo
is too fuzzy even to reveal if there are machine threads on the shaft -- which of course there must be. (Hint -- use a pocket magnifier in front of your camera to make extreme close-up photos.)
It is highly unlikely that this particular leveler is still made. However, I suspect that the threads are a very common 1/4-20 -- that is, 1/4" diameter, 20 threads to the inch. Levelers, often of zinc-plated steel with white nylon foot, are still readily available -- in the US, at least. You could darken these, as necessary, and place them at the rear of your piece, with the originals at the front.
It is necessary to level case goods that have doors, so that the doors will appear and function as intended. However, only two levelers (on one side of a four-legged piece) are needed to accomplish this leveling. Thus, the front two feet of your piece could carry your original levelers, while the two rear ones are needed only to provide level support -- on a flat floor.
