it's a documentary film
A documentary film by Stig Guldberg.
He just wanted to make a saucepan for his wife. That's how it all began.
But soon his design attracted attention from around the world and began a long career - most notably as chief designer of Dansk Designs. The designer Jens Quistgaard is not easy to pigeonhole. He covers a wide field, both as a human being and as an artist. He is an individualist who goes his own way, avoiding publicity; which explains why he became world famous while remaining unknown in his own country, Denmark.
For the first time in this filmed portrait, the designer invites a camera into his own universe. Shooting was carried out over a period of three years, ending only a few months before his death in 2008 at nearly 89. We follow Quistgaard at close range in his unique home, watch him in action at his working table, and we hear him talk of his life, his work, and what drives him as a designer.
The films shows examples of the breadth and range of his design output and includes unique 16mm clips from the 50s and 60s from his exhibitions as well as his architecture in the USA.
I posted about this film...
I posted about this film right around this time last year. Check out the thread. It has links to the trailer and a bonus. The movie is well worth the price!

We saw the DVD, it was great, we recommend it!
Don't miss all the bonuses when Jens Quistgaard talks about the creative process of his most famous designs.
Let's hope that Stig Gudberg renews the experience with other masters of Danish design.
