The Egg sofa was made in a very limited number. I believe it was three (though no matching ottoman). For a few years ago Illums Bolighus in Denmark had three Egg Sofas produced in black leather. The price was 100.000 DKK ($20300) each and they were all sold within a month.
Look at the links below. The black Egg sofa is one of these reproductions.
The blue sofa is, apart from the newer fabric, one of the original Egg sofas from the SAS hotel in Copenhagen. Notice the special base. It was sold at Bruun Rasmussen's Auctionhouse also at 100.000 DKK (+ auction fees). I had actually imagined a higher final bid, as it is really a AJ rarity. No one knows where the to other original Egg sofas are today.
Personally
I think this belongs on the thread about good designers making bad designs. Although I did laught out loud (and startle many coworkers) at the thought of a giant Egg sofa on a single pivot base.
Funny, but the form of the chair is so ingrained that when I see the couch it makes me think it's a knock-off ala the Corb below.

carbo would have flipped if he saw how his sofa was bastardized and so would Jacobsen, Sarrine Mies, as i am sure they had nothing to do with the sofa designs, Those boys were long dead before the manufactures starting fooling with their designs, talk about ripping the designers off, with fake reproductions, i am not sure it was not there own manufactures doing the ripping,
.
these people just get the subtelties wrong, any suggestion of a sumptuos sitting expereince is destroyed in that Le Corb confection. It looks as though its been stuffed with bricks.
The Egg sofa though I don't find so bad, not great but not bad. I suspect it wasn't pursued becuase of difficulty upholstering the thing, thats a big surface area to hand glue the fabric onto the foam (an upholstery method I've allways thought little of) and people sitting on one side or the other might put the fabric under uneven strain.

Thanks for the image. I too, have wondered what the final product looked like. Fun to look at, but ultimately too imposing for a sofa. Also, without a tilt function, not a very comfortable sofa for very long. Plus, as someone else pointed, maladherence would probably prove a major issue.
