In those days the cabs and internal hardware were almost always built by seperate companies and sold seperately as kits to be built by hifi shops or consumers.
That particular cabinet looks like a fairly generic one from that period.
Is there access on the rear? If so, remove the back panel and make note of the driver and crossover information. They look like 3-ways to me, but that smaller hole might actually be a port. The drivers inside could be very valuable.
Also, the legs do not look original.
They are a 3-way set-up....
They are a 3-way set-up. I've already taken them apart to see about who manufactured the drivers...Qui-Line, Made in the USA. Never heard of them and neither has most of the audio chat rooms I frequent. Granted they aren't Altecs or Jensen, but they sound pretty good. With the fabric grills and the feet they add that little bit of look to the room as well. Go good with my old Sansui 3000A.
JBL
Not sure if you could just remove the caps to the wood legs but I think it would be pretty easy (and maybe even cheaper) to replace the complete leg. I like the look of that speaker and have purchased just on looks myself as well. Here is one of my favorites. Looks good, sounds...OK.
Eastern Mich.
I'm across the street from WMU. WIDR is the college radio here but most of the stuff they play takes a little getting used to if you know what I mean. Although there is a nice Saturday morning Soul program that is just great.
There are quite a few nice looking speakers that fit into Mid-Century design quite well. JBL makes a set called Minigon that although I've heard sound like hell I'd buy a pair in a heartbeat. I have another pair of JBL's in the office/tv room that I also purchased just 'cause they looked good...Aquarius II's.
how about
these? You have to admit these are v. cool.

Some of those, like the Tannoy are above my pay grade. I use to have a pair of the Zenith, but waaa waaa...they sucked! Look way cooler than they sound. The Bose 901 with the tulip stands are nice, but Bose has never impressed me much. More name than substance. My main listeners are Klipsch KG4.2 with Crites Titanium tweeters, though they aren't close to "mod" looking.
The speakers above will probably end up odd man out though seeing as I have these as well...Marantz Imperial 5. They look cool and they sound very good. They'll end up either side of the Cado with the turntable and Sansui Seven.
[EDIT] Now I have, as I just acquired a pair of Wharfedale w70's as well. Very 60's Vintage looking...will have pics soon once I pick them up.
My main listening room with the modern stuff will be in the basement Man Room with all the normal furniture.
